Who’s Father Joe?

Reverend Monsignor Joseph Carroll (1941-2021), affectionately known as Father Joe to most people, was a humble hero who helped millions of neighbors in need experiencing homeless and poverty have access to housing, meals, job training, schooling, medical care, and more. From the seed of an idea, he worked hard to develop what is now known as Father Joe’s Villages in San Diego, California. Father Joe was known throughout the world as the “hustler priest” because he’d hustle to raise money to help others. He was a truly selfless man! His legacy lives on through the impact his goodness created.

What Are Father Joe's Six Golden Seeds?

Seeds for Daily Goodness

Author Kathryn Cloward (“Kathryn the Grape”) created the six golden seeds concept from life lessons she gained from Father Joe during her over 150 hours of recorded conversations with him while she wrote his memoir, Father Joe Life Stories of a Hustler Priest. Kathryn simplified a lifetime of his wisdom into six principles for experiencing goodness in our daily lives and shares them as Father Joe’s Six Golden Seeds.

Always be compassionate to everyone including yourself.

Forgive easily and forget all else.

Respect your neighbor.

Help your neighbor.

Empower yourself and others to earn the way.

Experience God in everything and everyone every day.
